The Texas General Land Office (GLO) presented its annual OSPRA Award to SPT

The OSPRA Award was established by the GLO, the oldest state agency in Texas, to recognize organizations that have excelled in their efforts to comply with the state’s Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act (OSPRA) of 1991. The agency’s primary functions include managing state lands and mineral rights, leasing drilling rights for oil and gas production and protecting the state’s natural resources.
SPT was recognized for going the ‘extra’ mile to protect the natural resources of Texas with continued excellence in transferring and transporting over 6.5 billion barrels of crude with minimal environmental impacts and for tanker construction and design which takes into account enhanced environmental protection through 100% protectively located double bottoms, double-walled cargo transfer hoses, bow thrusters, high lift rudders, and independent fender systems. As TGLO Oil Spill Prevention & Response Division Region 2 Manager Richard Arnhart said, “When it comes to having to respond to a release of oil, we know it is only a matter of “when”, and SPT has taken definitive steps to reduce the likelihood of “when” and are to commended for these efforts.”
“We at SPT are very proud of our environmental performance and the commitment of our employees to protect the environment of the communities where we work and live,” said Simon Duncan, President of SPT.
